According to Fassin and Retchman the concept of trauma has a dual genealogy because it reveals a close link between the people affected and the trauma itself and thus whenever the trauma justifies the affected person then they argue that that there is dual genealogy. The dual genealogy is based on two areas as the relatives of those who survived traumatic events like the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. For this assignment, you will be reading a chapter from The Empire of Trauma: An Inquiry Into the Condition of Victimhood (2010), by Didier Fassin and Richard Rechtman. This book is one of the most important recent works on the politics of ‘psychological trauma,’ and the history of this concept.
